The South Carolina Suzuki Institute is held at the University of South Carolina School of Music, located at 813 Assembly St, Columbia, SC.
SCSI participants under the age of 12 are required to have an adult present during class, meals, and leisure time between classes. Having a practice partner present during masterclasses and group classes helps ensure that students get the fullest benefits from these classes.
In cases where multiple children are attending SCSI from one family it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to ensure each student is supervised. Parents/guardians are responsible for the conduct of their child for the duration of the institute.
Tuition is non-refundable. See our cancellation policies here.
In a masterclass, 3-4 students will meet with a teacher and have a mini private lesson each day of the institute. It is one of the most valuable parts of the institute experience! We recommend consulting with the student's private teacher to ensure the student has a polished piece to play for their masterclass.
Group institute experiences are powerful growth opportunities for students. They have the opportunity to meet students their age from all over the state and beyond, work with guest faculty, participate in enrichment classes, and be immersed in music for a week. Students leave inspired and often remember fondly their time at these events. Fast growth often happens in a few short days! But don't take our word for it, click play and read on to hear what SCSI parents have to say!
"My 9 year old daughter participated in the 2024 South Carolina Suzuki Festival on the violin. She was able to gain valuable experience in her Master Class with Miss Betsy who offered praise through fun and humor. Group class allowed my daughter to see students at slightly higher levels which increased her work ethic after the camp was over. Art was a breakout class and all the students I saw enjoyed it. Camp was organized and all the camp staff was available if a problem arose. She was hesitant to join the play-in the first day, but by the end of camp, she was ready to sign up for the next year."
